If I Can Get Real for a Second…

My Dad’s Story

This exact time last year, things had begun taking a turn for the worse. I remember being so tired all the time, from doing the littlest of things. Getting out of bed took so much out of me to do. Walking Oliver was a task I just utterly dredded. I found myself having to hype myself up just to accomplish the simplest of things. I had genuinely known something was wrong, but had no idea what. My legs were doubling in size and there was no reason as to why. I went to physical therapy, put on the leg machine every night for an hour, basically did everything I was told and the results were not.

Despite things getting harder, I was ecstatic to be hosting my first Christmas in my new home. My brother-in-law was the first one to invite himself over and I couldn’t wait! My cousins had confirmed as well that they’d be joining us too. I had expected a house-full of family and it just couldn’t happen soon enough. Despite it being really hard to do much, I still pushed through and decorated and cleaned as much as I could. I remember at one point, I was lying in bed, so exhausted from the day’s activities of cleaning and decorating, saying to myself “God, if it’s my time to go, then so be it, but please let me just get through Christmas and have this one last holiday with them.”

Despite it all, I had a wonderful Christmas with the family. I felt as though I was so limited in what I could’ve done, decoration-wise and I never even got to bake a thing. If you know me, I go all out and it was honestly just REALLY to hard. Well, now that I’ve been on dialysis and feel SO much better, I decided to REALLY go all out this year. I am beyond grateful that God has kept me here to see another Christmas season. While some may think it’s crazy to do so, today, November 1st, starts the beginning of Christmas for me. Life is too short and tomorrow is never guaranteed, so I am going to do what makes me happy! I’m not hosting Thanksgiving, so it’s perfect! Things will be done earlier and it will give me the time to do other things, like maybe some baking this year.

Now to make some magic… In the words of the Christmas queen… It’s timeeeeeeeeeee!
